The Arizona Diamondbacks aren’t kidding around about what fans who sit in the primo Batter’s Box Suite of seats are permitted to wear.
It’s kind of embarrassing for a fan wearing the opponent’s gear to be shown over and over in every single at-bat shot on telecasts and, gosh darn it, the D’backs are taking action. There have been a number of reports of this over the last couple years and on Sunday, there was video proof when a Dodgers fan had to don a D’backs shirt. Like, during the at-bat. Which is really embarrassing.
The Diamondbacks explained their logic to Deadspin in 2013:
Due to the high visibility of the home plate box, we ask opposing team’s fans when they purchase those seats to refrain from wearing that team’s colors. During last night’s game, when Ken Kendrick noticed the fans there, he offered them another suite if they preferred to remain in their Dodger gear. When they chose to stay, he bought them all D-backs gear and a round of drinks and requested that they abide by our policy and they obliged.
All of which may be petty, but that’s the team’s right. Maybe next time, though, wait for a commercial break for a wardrobe change.
