Reality TV star Donald Trump announced his candidacy in the 2016 presidential election on Tuesday and it looks like it’s already gotten off to a smashing start.

In an effort to insult President Obama and others he referred to as “American leaders,” the 69-year-old real estate mogul used a bizarre sports metaphor to compliment China. Tom Brady (for once, perhaps) seems like the victim here.

“People say, ‘Oh, you don’t like China.’ No, I love them. But their leaders are much smarter than our leaders, and we can’t sustain ourself with that. There’s too much — it’s like — it’s like take the New England Patriots and Tom Brady and have them play your high school football team. That’s the difference between China’s leaders and our leaders,” Trump said during his announcement speech.

To recap: China’s Communist President Xi Jinping = New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady; your high school football team = President Obama.

In other words, Trump loves the Patriots and hates your high school football team.
