Last August, we got a glimpse of Tom Hanks’s love for women’s soccer, as the actor tweeted out his opposition to FIFA’s decision to use artificial turf at this year’s World Cup. On Sunday, the actor returned to Twitter, and this time he left no doubt that he is a huge fan of the USWNT.

That would be the entire USWNT roster, in alphabetical order. Clearly, Hanks is particularly impressed by Johnston, or he may just have been reading a New York Times article about the 23-year-old defender, in which an interviewer after the U.S.-Sweden game is quoted as telling her, “Julie, you have the face of an angel and you tackle like an absolute beast.”

In any event, Hanks’s exuberance for the USWNT is particularly noteworthy in light of the fact that he’s not a prolific tweeter. Prior to Sunday, he had only posted three times on Twitter since March, and one of those was this:

One has to imagine that Hanks will be glued to his TV on Monday — or even in the stands at Edmonton? — when the U.S. takes on Colombia in the World Cup round of 16.
