I know, we’re only halfway through September, so it’s ridiculously premature to label any play the “craziest of the year” in college football. That said, this play by Ole Miss against Alabama Saturday is the craziest touchdown of the year.
Wait, what? Let’s look at that again.
So that was Mississippi quarterback Chad Kelly, barely fielding a high snap and then lobbing it in the direction of well-covered wide receiver Laquon Treadwell. The ball went through his hands, bounced off the helmet of Alabama defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick and fell into the hands of Quincy Adeboyejo, who took it to the house for a 66-yard score that gave the 15th-ranked Rebels a 24-10 lead over the second-ranked Crimson Tide.
The Internet reacted with appropriate disbelief:
The Rebels beat Alabama last season, but that came at home. On the road Saturday, and as a seven-point underdog. Ole Miss needed some breaks to pull off the upset. Consider that the breakiest break that ever broke.
