Last week, outgoing/suspended FIFA president Sepp Blatter suffered some sort of stress-related health incident in his home country of Switzerland, requiring him to undergo medical checks over the following days.
Now comes word that it might be more than simply stress.
The Guardian reported Wednesday morning that Blatter, 79, has been hospitalized in Switzerland after suffering a “small emotional breakdown” and “a nervous shock.” He’s likely to stay the hospital for several days, perhaps until Monday, and is expected to make a full recovery.
“My brain and my heart are always fine, my body is letting me down,” Blatter’s spokesman quoted him as saying.
Blatter, who has vowed to step down as FIFA president once his successor is chosen in February, has been provisionally suspended for 90 days while Swiss investigators look into his role in an ever-widening corruption scandal.
