Cam Newton’s celebrations of touchdowns and first downs have gotten him dinged by people who see him as far too self-absorbed. However, the Carolina quarterback made sure to give his teammates a notable shout-out before the NFC championship game.

The names of all of Newton’s fellow Panthers were listed on a special pair of cleats he wore for warmups before facing the Arizona Cardinals. It’s still a look-at-me move, but hard to fault him for this one, right?

Newton is not the first to trot out a special pair of cleats for pre-game exercises. For example, before a Giants-Dolphins game in December, New York wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. stretched out in a pair of “Joker”-themed shoes, while Miami counterpart (and former LSU teammate) Jarvis Landry rocked the complementary Batman look.

So, by contrast, Newton’s shoes were sending a much more team-centric message. Of course, this is a player still fond of warming up in a Superman shirt, so the haters don’t have to worry about running out of material.

Speaking of haters, the Cardinals can’t be feeling too fond of Newton at the moment. After putting on a pair of league-approved shoes, he accounted for 335 yards passing, 47 yards rushing and four total touchdowns as Carolina crushed Arizona, 49-15.
