Mike Carey, the former NFL game official who is CBS’s “zebra in the booth,” is getting crushed on Twitter during the AFC championship game.

This is nothing new for Carey, but he has a big platform in one of the NFL’s three most important games of the season. Just what did Carey get wrong this time? At issue was whether Peyton Manning had thrown a backward swing pass or a forward, incomplete pass. It was a critical call because the Patriots’ Jonathan Freeny scooped up the ball. Bill Belichick threw the challenge flag and Carey was certain the call would be not be overturned until, of course, it was.

In two weeks, Carey will be calling Super Bowl 50.
