The choice of Coldplay as the Super Bowl 50 halftime artist drew plenty of criticism, but the choice of Lady Gaga to sing the national anthem did not — and she delivered a spare, powerful rendition of the song.

Accompanied by a piano and wearing a Gucci pantsuit (with matching eye shadow), she sang a slowed-down version of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” one that was drowned out at the end by the flyover of Navy jets.

The folks at Gucci report that her suit was “hibiscus red lurex with flared leg trouser.” She accessorized with a “pair of blue glitter and red-and-white striped platform high heels with brass cat head and spike details.”

“I’ve always wanted to sing the national anthem at a major sporting event since I was a little girl, and for it to be the Super Bowl, it is the ultimate,” she said last week.

“This is one of the highest honors of my career. I get a chance to sing for all the athletes who have been working so hard their whole life for this moment.”

As for those prop bets on the length of the song, the under wins.

Internet enthusiasts thought it was a pitch-perfect performance.
