Lionel Messi reportedly outbid Cristiano Ronaldo for world’s most expensive car

The competition between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Rinaldo has spread from grass to gravel, as, according to Sport, the Argentinian football superstar recently outbid Rinaldo for ownership of the 1957 Ferrari 335 Sport Spider Scaglietti driven by Sterling Moss in the 1958 Cuban Grand Prix.

Although the reports have yet to be confirmed — the buyer is still technically anonymous and Messi’s camp has denied the rumors — Sport’s information is based on a press release from the auction company, Proto Organisation, which also states that Rinaldo was interested in the legendary vehicle.

The bidding started at 22.5 million euros and concluded at 32 million, making it the most expensive automobile purchase ever. With five of the past seven Ballon d’Ors going to Messi, tacking on a 32-million euro trophy of a sports car seems like the perfect, albeit immensely cost-ineffective, next step in this rivalry.
