Following the incident, rumors also dropped about Fisher possibly dating Tim Hardaway Jr.’s girlfriend, though those reports didn’t have the factual legs of the Barnes incident. Although the league seemed content to move on, talk regarding Fisher’s actions lingered. Even considering the off-court issues, combined with an underwhelming start to 2016, it was a surprise when things came to a head last week — after starting February 0-4, dropping the Knicks 1-9 in their last 10 games, New York decided to part ways with the former NBA guard, firing Fisher Feb. 8 and replacing him with Kurt Rambis.
Then, salt met the wound. On Tuesday, ESPN NBA analyst and former NBA player Jalen Rose went on the Mike and Mike show on ESPN Radio to discuss a number or things, but after listening, the main takeaway seems to be this: Watch out for Derek Fisher come Valentine’s Day.
Host Mike Greenberg was wrapping up an ad placement when Rose decided to slide in this well-positioned barb: “I’m supposed to spend time with my Valentine, because I heard a rumor: If you don’t spend time with your Valentine, Derek Fisher will.”
Of course, Fisher hasn’t let any of this get him down too much — following his firing, Fisher was seen via Instagram vacationing with Gloria Govan, Barnes’ ex-wife, after the announcement. So, suffice it to say Rose was not entirely wrong on this one.
