Tom Brady has sent forth the call, and New England Patriots receivers are responding. On Sunday, Martellus Bennett followed Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola and Rob Gronkowski in replying to the quarterback’s Facebook post, which is fitting, given that the former Chicago Bears tight end is among the most recent additions to the team.
Let’s rewind to Thursday, when Brady’s ever-creative Facebook page featured a video in which he signaled that offseason fun was over, and it was time to get ready for the upcoming NFL season.
Edelman and Amendola were the first to respond, but only after consuming some doughnuts. Because they are, apparently, cops in the offseason. Then it was Gronkowski’s turn, with the tight end noting that he was “a little tired.” That had Brady telling him to “stop partying,” sounding like someone who had cringed at Gronk’s exploits on his infamous party ship.
On Sunday, Bennett, who was acquired from the Bears in mid-March, was the latest to heed Brady’s call. Or, as Bennett put it, he was answering the quarterback’s “bird call,” and he had the “Rocky” theme to prove it.
If Bennett can fit in with his fellow Patriots on the field as well as he is doing in the social media realm, opposing defenses are in big trouble. Meanwhile, Edelman and Amendola may have donned the uniforms, but Gronkowski and Brady look like naturals for a buddy cop comedy.
