On Tuesday, hours after a Dallas grand jury indicted him for an alleged assault involving his ex-girlfriend, Johnny Manziel turned up pretty much where you’d expect: with Justin Bieber and a bunch of his chums.

The grand jury’s decision means that a warrant will be issued for Manziel’s arrest, the district attorney’s office told the Dallas Morning News, when a judge sets the amount of his bond on the misdemeanor charge. That most likely will happen Wednesday. After that, Manziel can be expected to turn himself in and post bond. His lawyer Tuesday said he expects that will happen Thursday or Friday.

So, in the meantime, why not party like it’s 1999?

Even if it means going back to Cleveland, where Bieber was playing a show at Quicken Loans Arena.

One Instagram photo shows Manziel with the Beebs, his former Cleveland Browns teammate Joe Haden and a fourth man. Another Instagram pic  of the crew, posted by Haden’s wife, was taken down. (WKYC captured the screenshot.)

Manziel has been spending most of his time recently in California…and with Bieber.

Never mind that he has lost his sponsors along with his NFL team and two agents, and his behavior is being investigated by the NFL for possible violations of its personnel conduct policy. While there’s nothing legally barring Manziel from going to Cleveland for a Bieber show on the day he was indicted, the pictures make for bad optics from a guy who seems to supply fresh ones daily.

Showing up at Apple’s genius bar with a puppy is a much better way to go.
