Let’s get this out of the way first: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is not dead, despite what you may have seen on the league’s official Twitter feed on Tuesday afternoon:

(@NFL screengrab)

That tweet was quickly taken down but not before all those retweets and likes. Then whoever had grabbed the controls started toying with everyone.

(@NFL screengrab)

That one also was deleted, but not before one last salvo.

(@NFL screengrab)

The hack appeared to at least partly stem from a Twitter user named @IDissEverything, which was the last account followed by @NFL before the tweets went up. That account has been suspended.

To repeat: Roger Goodell is not dead, and @NFL needs to change its Twitter password.

Update: Goodell himself responded to reports of his death and it’s actually kind of funny.
