For the most part, social media users savaged the swap, claiming the Magic had given up far too much for Ibaka. In seven seasons in Oklahoma City, the 26-year-old native of the Congo has never made an all-star game, although he has been named first-team all-defense three times, and his PER this past season (13.9) was the lowest of his career. Here is a sampling of the online reaction:
OKC replaced Ibaka with Sabonis and ADDED Oladipo??!?!— Redacted (@AndyGlockner) June 24, 2016
Dear lord. Hide the children.
Why did Orlando have to give up that much for Ibaka? Bidding vs. who? Rhetorical and unanswerable questions.— Tim Kawakami (@timkawakami) June 24, 2016
Ibaka stopped being the defensive force he once was, so expendable, I guess. I really like upgrading Roberson to Oladipo— BBALLBREAKDOWN (@bballbreakdown) June 24, 2016
Ersan can play..cheaper than Ibaka too. OKC got a crazy deal— Lamar Butler (@Butler2two) June 24, 2016
I wonder if Kevin Durant stays now in OKC...they got one hell of a deal with the Ibaka trade— Troydan (@Troydan) June 24, 2016

EVERYONE: wow great move by orlando!!
[the return is announced]
EVERYONE: [furiously deleting tweets]
I don't bet against Sam Presti when it comes to picking players. Trading Ibaka for Sabonis/Oladipo/Ilyasova? Advantage, OKC.— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) June 24, 2016
Oh, and Ibaka has just one season left on his contract, a fact that some noted.
Ibaka is not the athlete he once was, and he could walk. Oladipo and Sabonis for Ibaka is worth getting the police involved— Marcus Thompson (@ThompsonScribe) June 24, 2016
Holy crap, what are the Magic doing? Ibaka is a free agent after next year.— PM Sports News (@PMSportsNews) June 24, 2016
Some, however, saw the upside for the Magic in the deal.
Frank Vogel coaching a Serge Ibaka and Aaron Gordon front line? I'm in.— Kurt Helin (@basketballtalk) June 24, 2016
You'll find many more Oladipo's before you find more Serge Ibaka's.— Matthew R Tynan (@Matthew_Tynan) June 24, 2016
I don't get why everyone keeps saying its a heist for OKC. Ibaka is good and Oladipo isn't as good as everyone thinks— Austin Peters (@CoachPeters_) June 24, 2016
Of course, this is all just talk, and a true evaluation of the trade can’t be made until after we see how each side fares on the court. But most of the talk was not complimentary to the Magic, who may have some ’splaining to do to their fan base.
