“Memphis. We grit. We grind. But we’re all heart.”
That’s how Justin Timberlake opens up his video plea in an attempt to persuade free-agent point guard Mike Conley to re-sign with the Memphis Grizzlies.
In what appears to be a public service announcement at first, Timberlake, part owner of the Memphis Grizzlies, introduces the short video, titled “Our Conductor,” featuring several current Grizzlies, fans, the Grizz line and even an orchestra, in an effort to retain the guard who’s been with the Grizzlies since the 2007-08 season.
“When we show love to one of our own, it’s all hands on deck,” Timberlake says. “So Mike, this is for you, from all of us, with all our heart.”
Current Grizzlies Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph and Tony Allen take turns sharing their reasons why they want Conley to remain with the team. Fans are shown wearing Conley’s No. 11 jersey.
The video can be found on the Memphis Grizzlies’ website.
While free agency opens July 1, Conley can be officially re-signed as early as July 10, after the moratorium period.
But this act isn’t new.
Last year, the Grizzlies did the same thing to woo Marc Gasol back. It worked. Guess we’ll find out if it works with Conley. Having Timberlake doesn’t hurt.
