Justino asked her followers to donate to a GoFundMe account set up to help Santos with his medical expenses. After re-tweeting several posts to social media that reveled in his violent win, Page also joined in the plea to come to Santos’s aid.
“I’m under observation now, and will have surgery in the United States,” Santos told MMA Fighting on Sunday. “I had a serious injury, but Bellator is giving me all the support I need. … I’ll be back soon.”
Bellator analyst Jimmy Smith offered some context Sunday for the severity of Santos’s injury (via Twitter): “A cut man who had worked as an EMT saw Cyborg after and told me he had only seen an injury like that in a severe car crash.”
The 29-year-old Page, a former kickboxer, improved to 11-0, with seven knockouts, while Santos fell to 21-18. Page shared footage of his knockout and “Pokemon” celebration on Facebook, with the caption, “Got to catch them all! I just caught a Cyborg!”
