One of Hope Solo’s teammates on the U.S. women’s soccer team distanced herself from the goalkeeper’s controversial comment that Swedish players were a “bunch of cowards” for the way they played in upsetting the U.S. team in the Rio Olympics.

“I saw her comments, but I feel like those are opinions I don’t share,” Alex Morgan told USA Today.

Solo drew fire for comments that flew in the face of the ideals of Olympic competition.

“We played a creative game. We had many opportunities on goal,” Solo said. “We showed a lot of heart. We came back from a goal down. I’m very proud of this team. We played a bunch of cowards. The best team did not win today. I strongly, firmly believe that.”

Still, Morgan understands that teammates cover for one another, no matter what.

“I feel like everything is fair game when you play a team sport,” Morgan said. “You have to support each other. Sometimes you have to cover for each other. That’s just part of playing a team sport.”
