That had a Twitter user taking a shot on an outcome at least as improbable as New England pulling off a comeback victory. If the Patriots did manage to win, he suggested that the tennis star go on a date with him, and Bouchard agreed.

Of course, Brady and Co. would go on to stage the greatest rally in Super Bowl history. As the Falcons’ lead shrank in the fourth quarter, Bouchard admitted to getting “nervous,” and then she began entertaining the unexpected reality of going on the date.
On Monday, Bouchard shared a post that teased at regret over certain events from the previous evening (the post also revealed that she is apparently a fan of “Space Jam,” which was released in 1996, two years after she was born). Her would-be beau was ready to remind her of what she had agreed to.
Bouchard, ranked 45th in the world, proved that she is as good a sport as she is a tennis player. The Montreal-born 22-year-old said on Twitter, “I will do it, I stay true to my word.”
The Chicago Tribune identified the lucky young man as John Goehrke, a 20-year-old University of Missouri junior. “I’m in shock,” he told the newspaper.
“I saw the tweet and I’m like, I wasn’t assuming the game was over because I knew how good the Patriots were and how good Tom Brady was, but I was like, I don’t think this is over,” Goehrke, a Rams fan who lives in the Chicago area, told the Tribune. “I thought it would be funny to comment something just to say whatever, like, ‘You’re crazy if you think this is over.’ . . . But then I thought I could have more fun with it and do something else, so I thought of that.”
Meeting up for the date could be tricky in the short term, if Bouchard, who reached the third round of the Australian Open (losing to eventual semifinalist CoCo Vandeweghe), follows the WTA Tour to its next few stops in Qatar, Dubai and Budapest. The tour returns to the United States. in March, at which point Goehrke, who said, “We can go on a date where ever you want!” may see his dream come true.
Whatever comes of the date, the Patriots’ remarkable comeback served as a teachable moment for Bouchard.
