Knicks star Carmelo Anthony is in the news again, and not for anything that has to do with basketball.
Anthony and La La have been married since 2010 and have a 10-year-old son.
The 12-time NBA all-star has experienced quite a bit of tumult over the past several months since triumphantly leading Team USA to a gold medal at the Rio Olympics. The Knicks suffered through another subpar season, finishing at 31-51 and missing the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. The 32-year-old has feuded very publicly with Knicks President Phil Jackson, who has harshly criticized Anthony several times, the most recent example coming last week when Jackson told assembled media at an end-of-season news conference that the team has “not been able to win with on the court at this time, and I think the direction with our team is that he is a player that would be better off somewhere else, and using his talent somewhere he can win or chase that championship.”
Anthony’s contract has two years remaining at an average of more than $27 million per year and contains a no-trade stipulation. There has been some chatter that Jackson’s invective has been employed in an attempt to force Anthony to waive that clause, but so far Anthony hasn’t budged.
Meanwhile, the TMZ story purports that this Knicks season “has been extremely stressful on the marriage for several months.” Maybe a change of scenery would be to everyone’s benefit, be it the basketball team or Anthony and La La themselves.
