A glittering array of guests from the golf and entertainment world turned out over the weekend as Rory McIlroy married Erica Stoll in a lavish ceremony in a 13th-century castle in Ireland.

McIlroy, 27, and Stoll, 29, wed Saturday in Ashford Castle, 350-acre estate in Cong, Ireland. Guests included One Direction star Niall Horan, Ed Sheeran, members of U2 and Coldplay’s Chris Martin; golfers Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Paul McGinley, Martin Kaymer, Thomas Bjorn and Shane Lowry; former Manchester United player Ryan Giggs; and actors Jamie Dornan and Jimmy Nesbitt. Stevie Wonder and Sheeran entertained at the reception, according to Eonline.

McIlroy said recently that he and Stoll had hoped to keep the ceremony intimate, which is defined differently when you’re the world’s No. 2 golfer. “We want to keep it to ourselves as much as we possibly can. Erica loves Ireland,” he had said recently. “It’s very similar to the place where she grew up, in Rochester, upstate New York, where it’s also very green and leafy.”

When you’re Rory McIlroy, intimacy comes at a price. With security tight, the tab for the nups was expected to run $1.2 million, according to Golfweek. Staff at the castle were required to sign non-disclosure agreements and surrender their cellphones, the Irish Independent reported.  Golfweek also said that there would be three layers of security at four access points at the venue. The Belfast Telegraph added that special measures were taken to keep drones with cameras from flying over Ashford Castle.

A little more than a year after breaking off his engagement in 2014 to Caroline Wozniacki after wedding invitations have been sealed, McIlroy went public with his relationship with Stoll, whom he met while she was working for the PGA of America.

“I am very happy in my love life,” McIlroy said in May 2015. “We haven’t really been putting it out there. She is from America, which is why I like to spend time in Palm Beach…The past six or seven months have been really nice. That part of my life is going great.”

The two met in 2012 and have been friends for years, getting engaged in December 2015. They’re reportedly headed for a honeymoon in Barbados.

“If everything off the golf course is good,” McIlroy said, “it allows you to be better on it as well.”
