The United States gets its electricity from a complex mix of sources — coal fired power plants, gas plants, hydroelectric dams, wind and solar installations, and much more.

The Clean Power Plan, soon to be finalized by the Obama administration, will shift the mix — in favor of renewable sources and to some extent natural gas, and away from coal.
