Juan Nicasio has been pitching great for Colorado. He threw seven scoreless innings against the New York Mets on Thursday night, bringing his record to 3-1 with 26 strikeouts and just eight walks.
Nicasio’s fastball was extremely effective, recording a strike on 33 of the 53 times it was thrown.
His slider wasn’t bad either.
But it was Nicasio’s bat that helped seal the deal for the Rockies: a two-run, line-drive single in the second that drove in Corey Dickerson and Charlie Culberson.
“I didn’t want a triple, maybe a double,” Nicasio said after the game. “Yeah, I wanted a double.”
Nicasio also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, marking just the third time this season a pitcher has driven in three or more runs to support a win. Nicasio is the only one to do it without hitting a home run.
