The number of homeless veterans in the United States on a single night in 2012 declined 7 percent from the previous year, according to figures released on Monday.

The figures were announced in a joint news conference by Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan at 2:45 p.m., Eastern.

The 7 percent decline follows a 12 percent reduction between 2011 and 2010. The Obama administration has vowed to end veterans’ homelessness by 2015.
