Federal offices in the D.C. area will open at noon on Monday due to the possibility of icy conditions for the morning commute, according to the Office of Personnel Management.
Federal employees will work under a delayed-arrival plan and have the option of unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework, OPM said. The agency has asked them to remain off the roads until 10 a.m.
Non-emergency employees who report to the office Monday will be on administrative leave until federal offices open.
OPM has released the following guidelines for non-emergency workers:
In accordance with their agency’s policies and procedures, subject to any applicable collective bargaining requirements, non-emergency employees may notify their supervisor of their intent to use:
(1) earned annual leave, compensatory time off, credit hours, or sick leave, as appropriate;
(2) leave without pay;
(3) their flexible work schedule day off or rearrange their work hours under flexible work schedules; or
(4) unscheduled telework (if telework-ready). (Employees who request unscheduled leave should be charged leave for the entire workday.)
Emergency employees must report to their worksites on time unless told otherwise by their agencies, OPM said.
Telework-ready employees must be prepared to telework for the entire workday, take unscheduled leave or a combination of both for the entire workday, in accordance with their agency’s policies and procedures, subject to applicable collective bargaining requirements, OPM said.
Forecasters said Sunday night that light, freezing rain was possible during the wee hours of Monday morning, meaning road conditions could be icy for the a.m. commute.
