At 7 a.m. Tuesday, the Office of Personnel Management  Web site said the status of the federal government is “open.”

Actually many federal offices and services are closing today and many federal workers are being sent home because of a partial government shutdown that began at 12:01 a.m.

Yet, the OPM Web site said: “Federal agencies in the Washington, DC, area are OPEN. Employees are expected to report to their worksite or begin telework on time.”

Many of them who report on time will be at their worksite only long enough to shut down their work activities.

OPM later updated its web site to say: “Due to a lapse in appropriations, federal government operations vary by agency.”
