The Washington Redskins will go with rookie Kirk Cousins as their backup quarterback for a second consecutive week.

Tenth-year veteran Rex Grossman again is listed as inactive according to the Washington Redskins, who will take on the hosting St. Louis Rams this afternoon.

Cousins was the backup last week in the season opener against the Saints as well, but didn’t get into the game.

Also inactive for the Redskins in Week 2 are safety Brandon Meriweather, who is nursing a strained MCL and PCL. Second-year pro DeJon Gomes, who recorded an interception last week, will start at strong safety for a second straight week.

Wide receiver Pierre Garcon (foot) is inactive, and Aldrick Robinson will start in his place. Rookie offensive linemen Josh LeRibeus and Adam Gettis, safety Jordan Pugh and nose tackle Chris Baker also will be inactive.

Inactive for the Rams are injured starting left guard Rokevious Watkins, quarterback Austin Davis, safety Darian Stewart, running back Terrance Ganaway, guard Shelley Smith and defensive tackles Michael Brockers and Matthew Conrath.

Mike Jones covers the Washington Redskins for The Washington Post. When not writing about a Redskins development of some kind – which is rare – he can be found screaming and cheering at one of his kids’ softball, baseball, soccer or basketball games.
