Mike Shanahan says playing Pierre Garcon might have ‘set him back’

Coach Mike Shanahan said he had wide receiver Pierre Garcon on the Washington Redskins’ inactive list Sunday because Garcon’s foot injury would have limited him to participating in a handful of plays.

“I felt like if we did play him, he might only play five or six plays,” Shanahan said. “I just thought we might set him back.”

Garcon missed practice time during the week after hurting his foot on an 88-yard touchdown catch during the Redskins’ season-opening win at New Orleans.

Aldrick Robinson started in Garcon’s place Sunday and had two catches for 40 yards. Robinson also failed to grab one long pass by quarterback Robert Griffin III.
