More talk of a ‘must-win’ game

Redskins say they must beat Cam Newton (above), Panthers to maintain realistic shot at playoffs (Don Wright/The Associated Press)

With the Redskins at 3-5 and hosting the Carolina Panthers in their final game before their bye, Coach Mike Shanahan said Monday this is a must-win game if his team wants to have any realistic playoff hopes down the stretch.

Veteran linebacker London Fletcher said Wednesday he has the same view.

“I would agree,” Fletcher said. “You think about 3-6 is a situation where if you talk about playoffs, you pretty much have to win out, being 3-6. [At] 4-5, you’re still in the thick of things, with a bunch of division games coming up. For us, it is, I guess you can say, a must-win game. It’s definitely a big game for us and one we need to have.”

Wide receiver Josh Morgan also expressed agreement, although with a slight twist.

“I see every game as a must-win game,” Morgan said.
