How he beats you: Umenyiora may be a little undersized at 6-foot-3, 255 pounds, but the 10th-year veteran has great quickness to go with strength, and good leverage.

“Just very crafty. You can tell he details his work,” Redskins left tackle Trent Williams says of Umenyiora, who has five sacks this season. “He’s very slippery, very hard to get your hands on, and most of all, he’s explosive off the ball. One bad step for him would make it a long night for you and your quarterback.”

Umenyiora generally plays well against the Redskins, having recorded a total of four sacks in the last three games he has faced them. Umenyiora recorded one sack against Washington — beating Williams — in the first meeting between the teams this season. Prior to missing both games against the Redskins in 2011, Umenyiora recorded a total of three sacks in the two 2010 meetings.

How to stop him: Williams says the key is discipline, and not getting caught off-guard by Umenyiora’s initial first step as the end blasts off the line.

“You just have to be good on technique. You’ve got to be disciplined,” Williams said. “It’s going to take a little luck. Hopefully they don’t guess the snap count too many times. You try to stay in front of him, try to stay square. It’s no easy task, as you can see.”
