Shanahan: Griffin still a game-time decision vs. Browns (updated)

Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said that quarterback Robert Griffin III had his best practice of the week as he works his way back from a sprained LCL in his right knee.

“He continues to get better,” Shanahan said.

The coach said there still is no decision on Griffin’s status for Sunday’s game at Cleveland. Griffin is officially listed as questionable and will be a game-time decision, Shanahan said.

London Fletcher (ankle) and Trent Williams (thigh) also are questionable.

Running back Alfred Morris was ill today and is listed as probable for Sunday.

Update, 3:20 p.m.: Shanahan said that he didn’t have a gut feeling on whether Griffin would play or not.

“No, not really,” the coach said. “We’ll get a chance to evaluate him tomorrow, talk to the doctors tomorrow and come to a decision.”

Shanahan continued to decline to say how much, or how little, work Griffin took in practice, or how he divided snaps between Griffin and Kirk Cousins, who would start if Griffin can’t play.

Shanahan said that he didn’t know when he would inform Cousins of his plans for Sunday, either.

“He’s got to be prepared to go in a situation like this. … I can’t tell you when, can’t tell you if it’s Saturday night or Sunday, but he’ll know before the game if he’s playing or starting,” Shanahan said.
