Injuries suddenly piling up on Redskins’ offensive line

The Redskins have had great continuity on their offensive line all season. They’ve had the same five starters in every game.

But they ended Sunday’s win over the Cleveland Browns minus two starters on the offensive line. Right tackle Tyler Polumbus suffered a concussion and center Will Montgomery suffered a knee injury.

According to the Redskins, Montgomery suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament. Montgomery said the injury occurred when a Browns defender blocked by Redskins left tackle Trent Williams fell into his leg.

“They’re going to look at it,” Montgomery said. “I’m just going to ice it tonight. Trent threw a guy on the side of my knee.”

Montgomery said he didn’t know the severity of the injury but he was hopeful of not missing any games.

“I don’t plan on [the offensive-line lineup] switching down the stretch,” Montgomery said. “I plan on keeping it the way it is.”

The Redskins planned for Montgomery to undergo an MRI exam Sunday night or Monday.

“I’m hoping it’s not very serious,” Coach Mike Shanahan said.

Polumbus now is subject to the league’s concussion guidelines. A player must be cleared by an independent neurologist after suffering a concussion before practicing or playing in a game.

Jordan Black took over for Polumbus at right tackle Sunday. Kory Lichtensteiger moved from left guard to center and Maurice Hurt filled in at left guard.
