Quarterback Robert Griffin III has received final clearance from doctors and is scheduled to start for the Redskins on Sunday at Philadelphia, a person familiar with the situation said Saturday evening.

Griffin is expected to be “good to go,” the person said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the situation publicly.

Griffin is to return to the Redskins’ lineup after missing one game because of a mild sprain of the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee.

Rookie backup Kirk Cousins engineered last Sunday’s win at Cleveland. Griffin was hurt on a hit at the end of a scramble late in a victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

Griffin participated fully in the Redskins’ practices all week and is listed as probable on the team’s official injury report. Coach Mike Shanahan said Friday it was highly likely that Griffin would play. But Shanahan also said repeatedly all week the final decision about Griffin’s playing status was pending approval by doctors.

The Redskins have won five straight games and are tied for first place in the NFC East. They can clinch a playoff spot Sunday if they win and the New York Giants, Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings lose.
