Tight end Chris Cooley hasn’t exactly had a huge role in the Redskins’ offense since the team re-signed him in October. He has only one catch in his eight games since returning, and that came last Sunday at Philadelphia.

But Cooley said Wednesday that the Redskins’ six-game winning streak, which has them on the cusp of an NFC East title, has been a career highlight for him.

“I think this run has been the most exciting part of my career,” Cooley said in the locker room at Redskins Park. “It’s been amazing seeing this team get the success that you work for every year. It’s hard when you’re not winning to come to work every week and keep doing the things you’re doing. It’s such a strange game because when you’re not winning it’s like every week is for naught. So the run we’ve had this year has made this so much fun.

“Everything that we’re working for, working together, has been in a positive way. It’s been in a winning way and a winning fashion. It makes it so much fun to be here. It makes it fun to be around the guys. I think that’s all you can ask for. And I think this team putting ourselves in a position to win is the only thing you can hope for as a team. There’s still a ton of work for us. And if we want to complete our goal, we have to continue to play a lot of good football. There is no opportunity for a letdown for us.”

The Redskins host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night with the NFC East title up for grabs.

“It’s huge for us because since I’ve been here, we haven’t had a chance to win the division,” Cooley said. “I think it would be an amazing step forward in this season to get another win this week. It’s been wild, because at no point can you look forward past one game. I think it’s made it more exciting. I think it’s made every win more exciting. It’s made every win more important. This team, this organization, has done a fantastic job focusing one week at a time…. I think this is a group of guys that’s worked unbelievably hard throughout the year. It’s also a group of guys that have come together as a good football team toward the second half of the season.

“When you see teams that win, when you see teams that make the playoffs, they make runs like this at the end of the year. They figure out how to win big games at the end of the year. This team’s been able to win a lot of big games in a row. It gives you the confidence to know that you can win. We have the potential to win. It doesn’t mean that we’re going to do it every week. But we’ve been able to prepare very well and we’ve been fortunate to come out on top a lot of games.”
