After one season as director of player development, Phillip Daniels is no longer with the Washington Redskins, two people with knowledge of the situation said.

Daniels, who played for Washington from 2004 to 2010, rejoined the team last season and served as a mentor to players and also worked to help players continue their education if they had left school early.

One person with knowledge of the situation said that Daniels wanted to get into coaching, but that he wasn’t going to get that opportunity with the Redskins.

The Redskins now must fill three positions on Mike Shanahan’s staff: receivers coach, special teams coach and now director of player development.
