Reggie Bush agreed to a contract Wednesday with the Detroit Lions, a person familiar with the negotiations said.

The Redskins, according to the person with knowledge of the negotiations, had expressed some interest in the free agent running back, who had been with the Miami Dolphins most recently after beginning his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints.

Bush reportedly is penciled in to be a starter in Detroit. He likely would have had a more limited role with the Redskins, backing up starting tailback Alfred Morris and perhaps being utilized as a third-down running back and in other situations.

He was in Detroit on Wednesday, and the Lions were successful in completing a deal with him before he left to make visits to other teams. He had been scheduled to visit the Arizona Cardinals if he hadn’t agreed to a contract with Detroit.
