No compensatory draft picks for Redskins

Coach Mike Shahahan and the Redskins won’t have any additional draft picks based on the NFL’s system for awarding compensatory choices (John McDonnell/The Washington Post)

The Redskins received no compensatory picks in April’s NFL draft.

The league announced the picks Monday at the annual league meeting in Phoenix; 32 compensatory draft choices were awarded to 16 teams.

The picks are awarded based on a formula evaluating gains and losses in free agency the previous year.

The Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens were awarded a league-high four compensatory picks apiece. The San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans were given three choices each.

The Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs and Titans each received a third-round pick. The Ravens, 49ers, Detroit Lions and Falcons each were awarded a fourth-round choice.
