The Redskins plan to sign a free agent defensive back Wednesday, according to Coach Mike Shanahan.

Shanahan, speaking at the NFC coaches’ breakfast at the annual league meeting in Phoenix Wednesday, declined to identify the player.

The Redskins ranked 30th in the NFL in pass defense last season and released cornerback DeAngelo Hall before free agency. They pursued free agent cornerback Aqib Talib but were hindered by their tight salary cap situation, according to a person familiar with those negotiations.Talib re-signed with the New England Patriots.
Shanahan also did not rule out the possibility of re-signing Hall.
