Now, it’s mostly a glorified walk-through, but there are times when the offense and defense will go at one another in these non-contact practices. There will be some nuggets to be gleaned from the day for sure.
Here are five areas we’ll monitor tomorrow.
1.) Griffin’s activity, words – He won’t practice with his healthy teammates, but instead, Robert Griffin III will continue his rehabilitation on the side with the team’s trainers, and his other recovering teammates. It remains to be seen if they’ll do that work in view of reporters. We do know that Griffin is scheduled to address the media on Thursday afternoon for what will represent his most extensive availability of the offseason. We should find out exactly – or, at least close to — where Griffin is in his recovery from January’s knee surgery.
2.) Comeback players – A number of players not named Griffin are coming back from injuries. Some, like Brian Orakpo, are expected to be full strength. We’ll also get an idea of where Pierre Garcon, Josh Morgan, Fred Davis, Roy Helu, Chase Minnifield, London Fletcher, Adam Carriker, Reed Doughty, Brandon Meriweather and the rest are in their progress.
3.) Kirk Cousins’s workload – For now, he’ll take the first-team reps as he prepares to lead this team in training camp or during the season if Griffin suffers a setback. Cousins already knows the system, but he has worked to improve his knowledge and command. How will he look?
4.) Free agent additions – There weren’t a lot of outside free agents brought in, but there were some. We haven’t yet heard from E.J. Biggers, Tony Pashos, Jeremy Trueblood and Pat White. It’s still extremely early, but some indications may be given on where they fit into the puzzle.
5.) Rookie education – They got an introduction to the system back at the rookie minicamp earlier this month, and the learning process continues as Washington’s draft picks get on the field with their veteran teammates. It’ll be interesting to see where and when they get onto the field for these practice reps.
