Some days in the offseason are slow. And some days are full of things happening, like your own team’s prospects improving by default, when your division rivals receive bad news.

The Giants’ Jason Pierre-Paul had back surgery and is expected to miss three months. Big Blue View speculates on possible replacements, including John Abraham.

The Cowboys, still trying to explain how they stuck to their leaked draft board, have now stripped head coach Jason Garrett of the play-calling duties and given them to Bill Callahan, the former Raiders coach. No bad news out of Philly, but Redskins fans can be glad it’s the other teams in the news for a day.

If you’re looking for a heavier read to help while away the rest of the afternoon, Grantland’s Bill Barnwell explains what a relative bargain Robert Griffin III and his fellow first-contract quarterbacks are, in comparison to veterans on expensive deals.

There’s video to watch, in the form of Post Sports Live, and a discussion on the key members of the Redskins’ defense, and something Tommy Lawlor of Iggles Blitz dug up on YouTube. This is eight minutes of legendary zone-blocking guru (and former Mike Shanahan assistant) Alex Gibbs explaining some fine points of the outside zone in NSFW fashion. (My favorite part is when he explains that they don’t bother blocking cornerbacks, that he makes them try to tackle). Eight minutes sounds like a lot, but it’s mesmerizing and might help you understand what the Redskins aim to achieve on some of their one-cut-and-go runs.

If you’re up for some lighter fare, we kicked this around a while back, but ProFootballTalk settled on its Redskins Mount Rushmore.

Verizon also secured a deal — reportedly to the tune of $1 billion — that allows fans to watch Sunday afternoon NFL games on their phones. Could be interesting, if you’re not already planted in front of your Sunday Ticket or watching at the Stadium or in some other manner.
