“According to the doctors, he’s ready to go in July,” Shanahan said following Tuesday’s minicamp practice at Redskins Park. “They don’t think there’s any question about it. He’ll be full speed, ready to go. Hopefully there is no setback. But right now the doctors have told me that they believe that he’ll be ready to go once we go to Richmond.”
Meriweather previously said he planned to be ready to practice at the beginning of training camp but he didn’t know if his doctors would agree with that assessment.
He was signed by the Redskins as a free agent last year but played in only one game because of a series of knee injuries. Meriweather was placed on the injured reserve list in November after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The Redskins are scheduled to open training camp July 25.
