On the most recent Post Sports Live, columnist Jason Reid and the D.C. Sports Bog’s Dan Steinberg discuss whether or not Robert Griffin III needs any preseason action to be ready for Week 1, whether there’s any chance Kirk Cousins will start the season, or whether there’s any reason to doubt RGIII:
Meantime, Mike Wise contemplates the effect offseason celebrity has had on Griffin, now that it’s time to get back to work. And Sally Jenkins talks with Mike Shanahan about sharing responsibility with Griffin for knowing when to dial it back, and when coach and quarterback should be more honest with each other.
Griffin is part of the new guard in the NFL, quarterbacks adept at running the option, among other things. Mark Maske examined how defenses will change their approaches after an offseason to study the games of Griffin, Colin Kapernick, Russell Wilson, et. al.
The Super Bowl was won by a team with a traditional quarterback, however, and now that the Ravens no longer are led by Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, Joe Flacco assumes the mantle for Baltimore’s made-over franchise. Rick Maese visited the defending champions as they begin training camp.
Which, by the way, is what the Redskins will do on Thursday. Six players are expected to speak this afternoon at 4, and we’ll have an ‘At The Podium’ thread for tweets and immediate discussion of what comes of the mouths of Griffin and London Fletcher. Trent Williams, Barry Cofield, Stephen Bowen and Cousins are all also expected to meet with reporters on the eve of training camp opening.
