RICHMOND — Veteran wide receiver Devery Henderson said he’s still in the process of learning the Washington Redskins’ offense as training camp gets under way.
“I’m excited about the opportunity,” Henderson said following the Redskins’ morning walk-through Thursday. “I think it’ll be a good fit for me. I obviously have to do what I have to do to make this club and just take it from there.”
Henderson was signed by the Redskins last month after the team had completed its offseason practices.
“It was a no-brainer,” he said. “It’s obviously a great team to be a part of. They have a lot of good things going, a good quarterback. It was just a good fit from the beginning. I was excited about the opportunity. Like I said, I’m going to try my hardest to make this club and do what I can do to help this team.”
He spent his previous nine NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints. Known for his speed, Henderson has averaged 17.9 yards per catch in his career. He had 22 catches for 316 yards last season for the Saints.
“There’s a lot of similarities here and there,” Henderson said. “Some things are different. I’m in the learning process right now. It’s like a rookie year. My main thing right now is to learn as much as I can to be able to go out there and do what I can do, full speed, without too much thinking and try to eliminate mental mistakes…. I’m still processing everything. When you’ve been in one system for however long, it is a challenge to pick up a new system.”
