RICHMOND — Free agent linebacker Joe Mays is scheduled to visit the Washington Redskins, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed.
Mays is likely to make the visit Saturday, the person said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the Redskins had not acknowledged their interest in Mays publicly.
He was released by the Denver Broncos this week. The move saved the Broncos $3.5 million in salary cap space. Mays lost his starting job in Denver last season.
The Redskins’ possible pursuit of Mays comes after reserve linebacker Keenan Robinson suffered a torn pectoral muscle during Thursday’s opening practice of training camp.
