RICHMOND — Quarterback Robert Griffin III’s activity level in passing drills was increased a bit during the Washington Redskins’ practice Wednesday.

Griffin took, by unofficial count, 15 snaps in seven-on-seven passing drills, his most in any practice since training camp began last week. Griffin still is not participating in full team drills as he works his way back from knee surgery in January.

“Our plan initially was to give him [on] our first three days we gave him eight reps on seven on seven,” Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said. “Our next three days, we gave him 10. Today he had 16 or 17. We’ll continue that for about a week. So we’ve got a plan if there is no setback. If there is a setback, then obviously we alter the plan. But we do have a plan to try to get him ready, and right now we stay with the plan.”

Griffin said earlier this week he hopes to convince Shanahan to permit him to participate in full team drills next week.

Shanahan said the key is that Griffin has continued to progress.

“We talked about patience to start off with,” Shanahan said. “Any time we go through drill work, we evaluate our people during drill work, not just Robert but a number of our players. [Safety Brandon] Meriweather, for example, we curtailed his work a little back. [Running back] Chris Thompson, we curtailed his work back some. That’s part of the process of looking at players. With Robert, we haven’t curtailed anything back. But we’ve got a plan, a patient plan to get him ready. And so far we’ve been able to stay with that plan.”
