“I’m hoping Monday,” Meriweather said. “I’m hoping I can come in and get a couple plays Monday. But it’s all up to Coach.”
Meriweather had his practice-field activities scaled back earlier in the camp as he works his way back from a knee injury. He has been limited to work in individual drills lately, while also doing rehabilitation drills at times on a separate field.
Redskins players have Sunday off, then are scheduled to resume practicing Monday in Richmond.
“They just told me to slow down,” Meriweather said. “They wanted me to slow down and not push it.”
Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said he continues to take a wait-and-see approach with Meriweather’s activity level.
“I really don’t know,” Shanahan said. “I’ll evaluate him in the drill work. Every once in a while, we’ll put him in a couple reps. You take a look at the film and see how he adjusts. If we don’t think he’s ready to go, then we’ll keep on working him through the drill work, running after practice, running after our walk-throughs. And eventually we’ll give him more reps when we feel like he’s ready. What we don’t want to do is push a guy too hard and set him back. That’s one of the reasons why he’s not getting any reps right now. We didn’t think he was ready to take any reps.”
