RICHMOND — Tight end Fred Davis and linebacker Brian Orakpo are poised to take the next step in their comebacks when they participate in the Washington Redskinspreseason opener Thursday night at Tennessee.

It’s only a preseason game. But it’s the first game action against an NFL opponent for Davis and Orakpo since each had his 2012 season cut short by injuries.

Both have participated in training-camp practices without any apparent setbacks. And both said they expect to play against the Titans and are eager to do so.

“I just want to go out there and be able to make plays, play the best that I can and see how I run after the catch,” Davis said Tuesday. “I’m sure after the first hit, I’ll be fine, get the butterflies out.”

Davis is returning from a ruptured Achilles’ tendon. Orakpo is coming back from a torn pectoral muscle.

“I haven’t been out here in a while as far as live competition,” Orakpo said. “So I’m a little more excited than most people. I’m gonna go out here and just try and do what I can.”
