NASHVILLE – Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan on Thursday night would not say when quarterback Robert Griffin III will be permitted to return to 11-on-11 drills.

Shanahan said Griffin, who has been limited to seven-on-seven drills since training camp began, likely would start running the full offense in walk-throughs, but not against a defense. It is expected that Griffin will continue to take part in seven-on-seven drills for Saturday’s practice at least.

Shanahan said last week that the Redskins’ game plan for Griffin would be “a little bit different” after the preseason opener vs. Tennessee. But when asked if a date had been set for Griffin’s return to 11-on-11 action, the coach said, “No.”

Griffin missed Thursday’s preseason opener as planned, but dressed for the game in full uniform as if he was going to play. He also walked to the 50-yard line prior to the start of the game for the coin toss.

Shanahan said: “He worked out beforehand, about half hour before the game, and I said to him, ‘If you’d like to go through pregame warmups, you’re welcome to,’ as I said to a number of our players. A number of our players had gotten a full workout earlier, and everyone had a right to. Robert wanted to get more of a workout. Robert wanted to get some more work in. It was good to see him out there.”
