RICHMOND — It took little to no time for wide receiver Pierre Garcon to re-emerge as the favorite target of quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Griffin had five completions Wednesday during full team drills at the Washington Redskins’ practice — his first participation in 11-on-11 drills during this training camp — and three of them went to Garcon.

The quarterback-receiver chemistry between Griffin and Garcon was quickly evident last season, and it appeared Wednesday that the practice time missed by Griffin as he has worked his way back from knee surgery in January has not affected the duo’s timing.

“We spent a lot of time together in the offseason doing our one-on-one routes on air and stuff like that,” Garcon said. “But we still know the basics of the plays and where to be, the timing and stuff like that. With defense, it’s a little harder. But we’ll get it down. We made plays. We missed on some. We’ll continue to grow.”

Garcon called it a “very important” step for Griffin to intensify his practice-field work as he readies for the Sept. 9 regular season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

“At some point, we’ve got to get live speed or as close to game speed as possible because Monday night [in the season opener], everything is live,” Garcon said. “Everything is full go. … We do have to be smart with it. We don’t want to rush him back. …We’ve got to keep both back in our mind.”
