Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said he will be back in the coaches’ booth in the press box for the Washington Redskins’ preseason game Saturday against the Buffalo Bills at FedEx Field.

Haslett will make a decision thereafter, he said, about staying in the booth upstairs for regular season games or returning to do his coaching work from the sideline.

“I’m going to try it again,” Haslett said Thursday. “We’ll see. We’ll try it this week, probably, and decide what I want to do.”

Haslett gave the booth a try during Monday’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“There are a lot of guys on the sideline and I almost got ran over a couple of times,” Haslett said. “But more than anything, it’s just something just to see different. Actually, I thought it was good. You can see everything…. It’s different because down there [on the sideline] you can communicate with the players. You can talk to them when they come off the field and you can talk to the coaches. But up there you have to get them on the phone, the headset. So that was kind of a pain, getting the players back and forth.

“But you see a lot up there. Sometimes the holes [for opposing runners] get real big. They don’t look that big down on the field. So it’s kind of scary sometimes.”
