Rex Grossman is scheduled to start at quarterback for the Washington Redskins in Saturday’s preseason game against the Buffalo Bills at FedEx Field, the team announced.

The Redskins announced that Kirk Cousins, as expected, won’t play in the game because of the mid-foot sprain that he suffered in his right foot during Monday night’s exhibition game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cousins didn’t practice this week.

Grossman and Pat White are expected to play roughly a half each. The Redskins plan to withhold starter Robert Griffin III from the entire preseason as he works his way back from knee surgery in January.

Others not expected to play Saturday, according to the Redskins’ announcement, include running back Evan Royster, safety Brandon Meriweather, cornerback Ryan Mouton, linebacker Roddrick Muckelroy, offensive lineman Jacolby Ashworth and nose tackle Barry Cofield.

Reed Doughty is scheduled to start at safety in place of Meriweather. Chris Neild is to start at nose tackle for Cofield, who suffered a broken bone in his right hand during the Steelers game.
